A WOMAN whose name sounds like al-Qaida – when pronounced wrongly – has been stopped from entering the US. DENIED: Aida Alic was stopped from entering the US because, she believes, her name sounds like al-Qaida [IG] Aida Alic, 33, arrived at Geneva airport on Wednesday with her husband and two children to fly to New York for a holiday but was informed by airline staff they had been told by US authorities she was not allowed to fly into the country. Ms Alic, who was born in Bosnia but has French nationality, was given no further explanation and her family were forced to return to their home near Chambery in the French Alps. According to a report by Punch , the UK and US government have joined the search for the 234 abducted schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, by Boko Haram men. On Friday April 25th, the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said the UK had begun talks with Nigeria over the incident. South Korean Prime Minister, Chung Hong-won, this morning Sunday April 27th announced his resignation 11 days after a ferry carrying school children on a field trip to the island of Jeju capsized and sank, killing over 300 people. TENSIONS in Ukraine escalated further last night after the US accused Russia of ­sending jets into the country’s airspace. US officials claimed Russia’s Air Force had made the threatening gesture several times in the past 24 hours. They called on the Russians to “de-escalate the situation” or face further tough sanctions from the G7 group of countries. Top brass are uncertain why the aircraft crossed over but fear they may be testing Ukrainian radar or making a show of force. The move further strengthens fears that Russia may be about to launch a military expedition into Ukraine. Russia has also increased its military exercises along the border, moving dozens of aircraft, infantry and armed troops. US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel blasted the latest exercises as “dangerously destabilising” and “very provocative”. The White House is also expected to increase sanctions against Russia, targeting “cronies” of President Vladimir Putin unless he moves to dampen the crisis. ...
