boko haram There are indications that the need to feed the over 200 students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on April 14 has put pressure on the Islamic terrorist group to steal food items and loot communities close to Sambisa Forest in the North East. Saturday PUNCH investigations revealed that the violent Islamic sect had in the past week stepped up the looting of villages, markets and food stores in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states for food items including grains and bread. Residents of these communities told Saturday PUNCH that the rate at which the insurgents stole their foodstuffs was unprecedented, noting that the pressure to feed the abducted girls might have contributed to the desperation of the insurgents to steal and kill the villagers in the process.

The Atlantic Ocean overflowed its banks at the Alpha Beach area today leaving residents of Lekki in a state of panic. Reports say the flooding was aggravated due to the absence of proper drainage in the area around Ocean View Estate which suffered much of the flooding. Police were called to the silver vehicle at around 4am in the Fishponds area of Bristol after they received information that were was 'something in the car that was not safe'. Mark Anderson, 43, said he was shocked when he was woken up at around 6am by a policeman knocking on his door. More than 460 homes were evacuated were evacuated, with residents sent to nearby schools and pubs, while a 200-metre cordon was put in place by the Royal Logistic Corps.Avon and Somerset police said the incident could be linked to an 'ongoing dispute'.

Boni Haruna , the Minister of Youth Development, made an announcement today Thursday 29th May 2014 that  President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan  has declared amnesty for members of Islamist militant sect  Boko Haram  as part of his administration’s “youths-friendly programmes and policies”. Punch  reports that it was disclosed at an event tagged “A day with young leaders of Nigeria” in Abuja, and the minister asks us to embrace the government’s gesture. “President Goodluck Jonathan has also declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace. Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Federal Government, to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key to amnesty programme.” he said. 23 year old Precious Chineme Nwoko (pictured above) has been sentenced to 27 years imprisonment by a Cambodian Court for drug trafficking in Cambodia. Police sources say Nwoko was a ringleader in a heroin smuggling cartel in Cambodia. He was arrested last month for handing a backpack containing 2.2 kilos (4.8 pounds) of heroin to two women, 41year old Australian Yoshe Ann Taylor and 19 year old French Charlene Savarino, for onward transportation to an unidentified man in Australia. Both women were however caught and arrested.   At their trial last month, it was discovered that 19 year old Savarino was Nwoko's girlfriend and they worked closely in smuggling heroin. 41 year old Taylor had also previously helped to smuggle heroin using the backpack. Judge Kor Vandy at Phnom Penh Municipal Court who presided over their case today said Nwoko and the two women were guilty of 'cross-border smuggling of illegal drugs and thereafter sentenced Nwoko's 19year old girlfriend Sav

Convicted Boko Haram member, Kabiru Umar (aka Kabiru Sokoto), has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan for pardon.He is promising to assist the FG to fight end the Boko Haram menace. Umar was sentenced to life imprisonment on December 20,2013 after he was found guilty of the December 25 , 2011 bombing of St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madala, Niger State. In a letter to the president, written on his behalf by his lawyer, Sheriff Okoh, Umar said he was innocent. The letter obtained by Punch to the president reads:

Elliot Rodger, the son of Peter Rodger who was the assistant director of The Hunger Games have shot seven people dead because he never dated or kissed anyone at 22. Rodger claims no one wanted to date him even when he was still in college and threatened to punish them by killing them. He posted a video on youtube where he recorded his threats and says he feels lonely and unwanted as a 22-year old virgin. His family later reported him to the police, but they found him to be a perfectly polite, kind and wonderful person. He also shot himself in the head after killing six. A few days after multiple bomb blast killed over 200 people in Jos, another round of explosion has been reported along Bauchi Road, near the University of Jos, Jos. The blast reportedly occurred this evening around 9:30 at a viewing centre where football fans gathered to watch the UEFA Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid...which ended a few minutes ago. FROM PAUL ORUDE, Bauchi As the war against the Boko Haram by the Federal Government intensifies, the Nigerian military has reportedly bombed the sect’s camps located in parts of Bauchi State, local and security sources have disclosed. As early as 6:00a.m., locals said they heard loud sounds of explosives coming from the forest where insurgents’ camps were reportedly located. It has been reported that  sizeable numbers of gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have been operating in the Balmo forests in Darazo,  Burra in Ningi, Soro in Ganjuwa and Yugda forests between Zara-Miya, while another camp is believed to exist around the Bauchi-Gombe boundary in Alkaleri.

President Goodluck Jonathan this morning has signed the 2014 budget into law. According to the Ministry of Finance, the signing followed the completion of statutory legislative processes. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will brief journalists later today about it.

I cannot verify the authenticity of what you are about to read and see but according to a popular Muslim cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmu Gumi, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, he claims the men lined up are young Almajiris who were executed without trial as Boko Haram members in Borno state. He claims vigilante groups would move into the villages, pick up young men, take them to the field and kill them.
