Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi and the team captain Joseph Yobo have both quit the team after failing to qualify to the quarter-final stage of the 2014 World Cup,  Vanguard  reports. Speaking this evening after the Eagles' loss to France in the round of 16, Keshi said it was time to move on. "I have to go back to my family and face fresh challenges,” Keshi said. Eagles Captain, Yobo Joseph also said he's had enough and can go no further as national team player. “I think I should give the younger ones the opportunity to forge ahead. I have nothing new to offer.

The Minister for Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) Dr. Tammy Danagogo over the weekend revealed that billionaire businessman Otunba Mike Adenuga gave him $250,000 to give to the Super Eagles in Brazil to encourage them to beat France today, promising to do more if they win and advance to the quarter-final stage. According to Danagogo, who has since presented the money to the team,  Mike Adenuga, while presenting the money to him said; "This is a token and if the team goes ahead and shock the world, I will join Mr President to shock the team.”

                                                      A scene from  the blast   The busy Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos was thrown into pandemoniun,yesterday night, when an explosives-laden  car  went off at Folawiyo Fuel Depot. Vanguard  gathered that the explosion occurred at about 8:30pm; affecting four buildings, including two  banks . No fewer than four people were killed in the explosion. We are not sure if it was a Boko Haram attack or not. We really hope it’s not.  Update: The Director, State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe says it was a gas explosion and not a suicide bombing as claimed by some eyewitnesses.

Comedian, Radio/TV  personality , actress and singer Helen Paul has joined the league of respected ambassadors of telecoms giant, Globacom. The popular Triana building on Commercial Rd in Apapa, Lagos was gutted by fire in the early hours of this morning June 25th. The fire lasted for hours before firefighters were able to put it out...but not before millions of naira  worth  of property was destroyed. See more photos after the cut...

Eleven secondary school students and a hotel manager were recently arrested in Kaduna by officials of the Kaduna State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, after being caught in a hotel taking Psychotropic substances.   NDLEA Kaduna State Commander, Mohammed Jibrin made this revelation at The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme which held in Kaduna yesterday, June 24th.    Mr Jibrin said the students comprising of seven girls and four boys were arrested following a tip off, adding that eight of the students arrested were still in Junior Secondary school. He said parents of the students arrested have been invited for questioning and counseling while the hotel manager is still under investigation.

Despite being declared  winner  of the Ekiti State governorship election,  Ayo Fayose  reportedly still has a case to answer with the Economic and  Financial  Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC is refuting media reports that declared the  case  was dismissed, according to  Punch . The agency stated “that election of Fayose has not affected the ongoing  trial  of the governor-elect at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, for alleged corruption.” Court hearings for the case will begin on July 15.

A four-seater plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon via Cameroon has gone missing. The plane, owned by US company, Global Aviation, took off from Kano Airport around 6pm yesterday  Monday  June 23rd and was billed to make a stop over at Doula Cameroon before continuing to Gabon to arrive at  11pm  but it never arrived at Doula, Cameroonian Aviation authorities have said. Only an American pilot was on-board.   The Gabon Aviation authorities say the last contact they had with the plane was when it was in Mongo which is a 2-hour  flight  from the Cameroonian economic capital. Search & Rescue operation has so far not yielded any result but the search operation still continues

13 year old Ricky Osagie (pictured above, his dad right) from Warrenstown died on  Saturday  June 21st following a brave attempt to try to save a girl who had got into trouble swimming in a man-made pond at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th. According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky's, a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her. The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond, and it was up to Ricky to save both girls. Which he did. Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital. The two girls survived, but Ricky died  the next  day.  Ricky Osagie was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland, his distraught father, Kelly Osagie told the  Sunday  Irish Mirror. He said Ricky was a hero because he knew he was risking his life when he went into the water as he could

Three soldiers were reportedly killed yesterday June 22nd after a suicide bomber suspected to be from the Boko Haram sect attacked a military post near a Secondary school in Gwoza, Borno state.   Vanguard reports the suicide bomber drove through Wala and Warabe villages before getting to the military post where the bomb detonated and a loud sound immediately followed, with the vehicle the suicide bomber rode in and other things in the attack scene destroyed.   One of the residents of the area, Mallam Usman Yaro who spoke with Vanguard said residents of the area were still asleep when the bomb detonated.
