‘Celebs earn cash starving!’ Luisa Zissman on yo-yo dieting – and how sex is cure
SUMMER is coming and so is the hell that the majority of body conscious Brits are about to put themselves through – the bikini bod diet.
The Christmas binge is still lurking, New Year’s resolutions are long forgotten and as well as shedding clothes in the warm weather, we're probably feeling we need to shed pounds too.
My Dubai beach body from last year is gone; a distant nightmare of hunger pains, sweaty excessive workouts and diet pills. In its place, my winter body – the pesky junk in my trunk, a lethargic attitude to exercise and a food happiness that gives me a warm fuzzy glow.
Instead of the latest fad diet – which is normally right up my street – I’ve decided to attempt to be more sensible and try Protein World. Two shakes a day and one healthy meal; hopefully I won’t be hungry this time round... I use the term ‘sensible’ loosely, restricted eating rather than starvation.
Yo-yo dieting is a lifestyle for many of us though, and normally as quickly as we shed the weight we pile it all back on. Plus a whole lot more muffin top than we even had in the first place. Unsustainable diets – especially celebrity-endorsed ones – are a dangerous game.
Geordie Shore’s Vicky Pattison has been gracing the covers of weekly magazines recently, showing off her fast-track weight loss after shrinking to a tiny size 6.
She’s now admitted to gaining a stone after doing her fitness DVD.
There is now a business in yo-yoing, celebs earn cash from starving. It’s PR’d to the hills so fans copy to the scales, buy the DVD, then everyone eats it all back on again!
Kirstie Alley has practically built a career on pogoing with her measuring tape statistics, while Fern Britton is well-known for toing and froing with her silhouette, as is Christina Aguilera.
We all know yo-yoing isn’t maintainable, yet we still put ourselves through the misery of it. It’s virtually impossible to sustain a stick-thin figure, our natural instinct is to eat, so inevitably we gain weight, then feel guilty, diet again, then binge, diet, binge, diet…
An endless cycle of striving for an unrealistic ‘perfection’. We need to break the ridiculous cycle of see-saw diets. Eat less, move more – it’s a simple solution for a healthy lifestyle, but why is it so hard for us all to do?
How do we fit working-out into our busy schedules of 80-hour working weeks, being parents, socialising with friends and having some time to ourselves to chill?
I think I may have found a perfect, pleasurable solution though.
Locking lips with your partner is not just good for your relationship, it’s also great for your waistline. Just 10 minutes of kissing with your beau, morning and night, can burn up to 100 calories a day. That equates to 36,500 calories a year – 10lbs worth of weight loss – that’s one whole dress size.
And if you’re single, don’t worry, according to Japanese scientist Dr. Shukan Tokuho a five-minute vigorous masturbation session can see you burning up to 300 calories a time… Just saying.
That healthy summer glow has a whole new meaning now, with weight loss where you don’t have to starve – and you’re smiling.
Update from me this week: Yes, I did have a wonderful holiday (but it’s good to be back). You’ll see me back on TV screens throughout the summer – will reveal all soon. And BIG BIG love to my gorgeous friend Lee Ryan who is one of the most amazing, kindest men I’ve ever met.
Peace, love & happy weight loss!
